Time does fly!!

9 07 2008

Where has this year gone, or better yet, where have I been?  Well I have been trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.  Do any of us ever figure that out?

I started out this new year thinking I was going to delve into the world of insurance.  I obtained, through alot of hard studying, all of my insurance licenses.  So if there is anyone out there that needs someone for that game, let me know.   So far that has not worked out so I am hanging out at the house and getting some things done there.  I have also done a bit of traveling which has been fun.  Done some fun bike riding and just generally enjoying family and friends.  The summer is rolling along and maybe in August I might get to work at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, that would be interesting. I will keep you posted on that gig.

So I promise to keep you more up to date.  Not that anything extemely interesting is going to happen, but you never know!!!

Take care and I hope you are having a lovely, peaceful, happy summer!!  The best to everyone!!

It’s cold outside!!!

29 11 2007

Good morning to all of you!!  It is very chilly this morning.  But that is a good feeling.  The crisp air is wonderful!!  Looking at the mountain this morning with its dusting of snow made me think again how absolutely wonderful it is to live here in Colorado.  It is a great thing to be alive and full of life here in the Rocky Mountains.   Things are changing in my life again but I have a feeling of excitement and wonder.  And this is a great time of year to have that feeling.  It is the time of year to feel that wonder and excitement with the lights aglow on our houses and Christmas trees and in our hearts!! Anticipation of all the holiday gatherings and greetings of friends and loved ones.   What a warm feeling that gives us even though it is cold and  snowy outside.   I love this time of year!!   And one of the best things is that I get to go skiing this weekend!!!  I am soooo excited!!!  I never thought I would be so hooked on a sport.  It is a wonderful, fun thing to get to do!!!

My best to all of you the next few weeks!! May your holidays be filled with warm, glowing, loving days!!  It is a happy season!!!

And as the song says, “Have  yourself a Merry Little Christmas”  put all your cares and troubles away for this lovely happy season!!!  Peace and love to all of you!!

Happy Halloween!

30 10 2007

Go to fullsize imageHappy Halloween!

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays!!  Some people say how can that be?  I love to be scared and I love to dress up.   What a great time of year to do both.

Hallow’s Eve, Hallow E’en, Halloween, Day of the Dead, Samhain. By whatever name it has been called, this special night preceding All Hallows day (November 1st) has been considered for centuries as one of the most magical nights of the year. A night of power, when the veil that separates our world from the Otherworld is at its thinnest. As ubiquitous as Halloween celebrations are throughout the world, few of us know that the true origin of Halloween is a ceremony of honoring our ancestors and the day of the dead. A time when the veils between the worlds were thinner, and so many could “see” the other side of life. A time in the year when the spiritual and material worlds touched for a moment, and a greater potential exists for magical creation.

So this Halloween create your own magic and have a wonderful, scary, fun time!!  BOO to you!!

Fire!

24 10 2007

Unless you are comotose, you have to have seen all the news on the fires in Southern California.  It is hard to imagine what those folks are going through.  Leaving your home and not knowing if it will be standing upon your return.  Some only had a few minutes to get out and take what they could.  All the morning shows are giving advise now on what you should have ready to go when and if that time comes.  All good ideas.  Of course the most important thing is getting out and making sure everyone is safe, that is the main concern.

I remember when the Hayman fire was glowing in the distance from Colorado Springs.   The things I thought about were my pictures.  That is something you cannot replace.  Of course now, if you have them on your computer, you can copy them and take them out the door with you.  But some of us old school folks still have boxes, and I mean boxes of pictures.  Most are my from the last 30+ years but there are also quite a few of when I was little and some ancient ones of parents, grandparents and great grandparents and family.  Those are all priceless.  Of course get your paperwork in order too so  you can get that out at a minutes notice.

There are days when you take life for granted.  But then nature once again lets us know who really is in charge!!

Please keep all those folks in CA in your thoughts and we hope that the Santa Ana’s will soon subside and let everyone get back to their daily lives.   D take care!!!

Ah Autumn!!

23 09 2007

My favorite time of year!   What spectacular beauty surrounds us at this time of year.  Some people don’t like this time of year, I won’t mention any names.  They say it is the end of summer and everything is dying around us and old man winter is knocking at our door (I am ready for that).  No, don’t look at it that way, the changing of the seasons is the time when nature shows us what it truly has up its sleave.  Reds, oranges, yellows, combinations of all of these colors together bring to us one of the most magnificent shows on earth.  All of the seasons bring us change, it shows how life is full of surprises and how much there is to live for.   All of the seasons have their own beauty!  And each season, no matter which one you prefer, shows to us that life is always changing and that it is full of excitement, beauty, love and the wonder that surrounds each of us every day.   Don’t close your eyes to any season, each has its own unique power and glory!!

Enjoy the beauty of Autumn and its magnificent splendor!!

Stay well and be good, I will try to.

Sakura

6 09 2007

Life is too short.  Live and love every day!

Today was a day to look at myself and those around me and see what my life is really about.

I have a great sadness inside of me today.  A wonderful woman that I have come to know as a friend is going to be leaving us soon, not of her own choice.  Her name is Sakura.  She has become a friend over the past 7 years.  Not the kind of friend that I see or talk to every day, but a person who I am so happy to call friend.  When I do see her we laugh about life and how enjoying it is the most important thing. She told me today she has no regrets, she has lived her life to the fullest and has made every day count.  She and I have always agreed upon how precious life is and that we must make each day count.  That is the most important thing.  As she was looking at me today and said, Mary, you don’t know when it will change, look at me, it changed in an instant, so that is why it is so important to always love this life we have.   We chatted about her family and what she needed to do.  I said anything you need from me please let me help.   She said yes, I will let you know.  She told me I have a great heart, a big heart.  That was nice.  I told her that it is good to have but there are some days when having it has not served me too well.  She said yes it has, don’t ever think it hasn’t.   She is a wonderful woman.  It has been a privilege to get to know her.  I keep her close to my heart this night.

There is always change in our lives.  Sadness, happiness, love, hate it is all a part of this life.  Friendships, companions, loves, we have all of these things throughout our lives.  We all have unique spirits.  Finding the person who makes you feel at home in this life is a true gift.   But first we must start with ourselves and look inside to find how we are at home with our own existence, that is where love and life truly begins.  Sakura found that in herself and has shared that with many of us.

Take a look inside - what are your true feelings about your life and those around you.  What is going to make you happy.  Things can change in an instant.   Share that great joy, love and zest for life with yourself and those around you every day.  And keep Sakura and her daughters in your thoughts.

Take care of you,

M

A Little Time Away

29 08 2007

For the past 2 days I have been in the mountains with one of my dearest friends.  We talked about many things, laughed, cried while watching a couple of movies, drank some beers and toasted with a few margaritas!!  It was beautiful in the mountains while we were there.  The first night it rained and cooled everything down.  Yesterday was a gorgeous rocky mountain high day.   We took a long lovely walk around Lake Dillon and enjoyed the surrounding beauty.  We found our way to Breckenridge and we wandered the streets and looked in galleries and even looked at a few of the posters for houses.  We were on the verge of buying one of them.  I didn’t have any checks with me - she did - and the one we wanted was only a million.   But we decided to go to lunch and sit and enjoy the sun and mountains instead.  Next time we go we may again think about purchasing one of those beautiful homes!!  Wow!!!

Get away when you can, enjoy your friends and family!!   Life is too short not too.

Life is Good!

My Dad

13 08 2007

dad-and-me.jpg

My dad, Bill Evans. A loving, caring, funny, handsome, wonderful husband, father and my dad!

Dad is in a nursing home in Kansas. He has Alzheimer’s and is slipping away from us more each day. When we saw him a week ago he didn’t recognize me. And it had only been since April that I saw him last. And then he was still calling me by name and telling me all kinds of sweet things. My sons Jim and Phill both went back to see their grandpa. I was so glad they did. I think deep down dad knew we were all there and somewhere inside he was saying hello to each of us. He still has a strong grip and we arm wrestled a little. I miss my dad.

Go and hug your mom and dad and grandpa and grandma and anyone you are close to today. Life is short, and we need to make each day count. Life can be good. It is up to each of us to make it that way for ourselves and those around us.

Love ya dad,

M
